October Monthly Meeting

Tuesday October 24th 2023, 7:00-8:30pm
TORONTO POTTERS MONTHLY MEETING

Artist Talk & Demonstration

with Peidi Wang

Gardiner Museum,
111 Queens Park, Auditorium

Programme Description

Peidi Wang graduated from OCAD university in 2020 with a Bachelor’s degree in industrial design. With experience working with several materials in school, including wood, metal, ceramic and plastic, Peidi finds clay to be the most engaging material to work with and the most ideal material to capture and express the form of beauty from her perspective.  She has dedicated herself to becoming a professional ceramic artist with sculpture as her current primary practice.

She sculpts weird, cute creatures, inspired by her own experience and observation and has been exploring a new form of relationship with exotic creatures. Through photos and videos Peidi is able to celebrate her appreciation of their extraordinary forms and colors, while also leaving room for her imagination to thrive. An ongoing exploration of this relationship has been reflected continuously through her ceramic projects: Survivalist (2019), Snail Party (2021), The Magnificent (2022) and currently ongoing projects: The Paradise, as well as through other mixed media sculptures and artworks.

Peidi Wang interned at the Gardiner Museum as a 4th year student at OCAD U, and in 2023 she is the recipient of the Toronto Potters Biennial Juried Exhibition’s prestigious Gardiner Exhibition Award.

Toronto Potters invite all members to meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month between 7:00-8:30pm, to connect with colleagues and new members, to network and to find out what’s coming up in the community of ceramics.
